Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi drop out of top 10 in latest Test rankings

DUBAI – Former Pakistan skipper Babar Azam and pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi slipped out of top 10 in their respective categories in latest ICC Test rankings issued on Wednesday.

Babar Azam has been facing public backlash for his unimpressive performance in recently concluded two-match Test series against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi.

Bangladesh defeated Pakistan by six wickets in a rain-affected second cricket Test to convincingly sweep the two-Test series 2-0 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.

Babar Azam made only 64 runs in four innings of the two Test matches.

The rankings showed the right-hand batsman dropped three places to 12th place in the Men’s Test Batting Rankings.

Meanwhile, Shaheen Afridi slipped one place to 11 spot as Matt Henry from New Zealand secured the tenth places in Test Bowling Rankings.

Back-to-back centuries for Joe Root have led to the English star extending his lead atop the ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings.

Root (922 rating points) now leads by 63 points over New Zealand’s Kane Williamson, and the England right-hander has an opportunity to break his own personal best mark, just one point away from the 923 rating he attained in July 2022 after a century against India at Edgbaston.

Just three English batters boast better career highs for Test batters: Len Hutton, Jack Hobbs and Peter May.
